Chelsea Handler laughed as she recalled how, at the age of 40, she came to the conclusion that the sun and the moon are “not the same thing.” “It was stunning to me as well,” she said. “It was not the same thing.”

The comedian, who is 47 years old, was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week, where she discussed a story from her new Netflix standup special Revolution. The anecdote was a little bit embarrassing, but it was absolutely hilarious at the same time. She will be hosting the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday.
“This is quite accurate. “I didn’t realise that the sun and the moon were not the same things until I was 40 years old,” Handler stated, to the delight of presenter Jimmy Fallon and the crowd. She then joked, “It was startling to me as well.”
She related how she had her insight while on safari in Africa with her sister, and how it occurred to her when they were riding elephants.
“My elder sister Simone was gazing upward at the sky when she turned to my younger sister Chelsea and said, “Chelsea, look up.” It isn’t very often that you have the chance to view both the sun and the moon at the same time,'” The handler came back.
The handler then pretended to be surprised while looking around. “I felt like Scooby Doo at the time. I’m thinking to myself, “Ruh, what?” “— she said.
“I respond by saying, “Wait, but they’re usually together,” at the moment that I did so, she turned around and said, “What did you say?” And I was like, ‘Oh, stop up, shut up, shut up.’ I was aware that what I had stated was incorrect. When I heard it, I said, “Let’s canter.” Is that what a giant animal like an elephant does? “The comedic performer carried on.
“She gave me a glance… and all I could do was pretend as if nothing had happened. I was thinking, “Oh, forget everything I just said.” I know.’ And she said, “No, I need you to tell me what you believe is occurring between the sun and the moon.” And I was like, ‘Honest to goodness, I was simply assuming that when the sun went down, it came back up as the moon.’ I’m thinking to myself, “Is that not what’s going on?” The guy who was riding the elephant could not understand English, so he said, “Pfft!” “added Handler.
On Sunday evening at seven o’clock Eastern Time, The CW will broadcast live from the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles the 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
