The sci-fi epic that was released in 2009 has been upgraded to a breathtaking 4K resolution in preparation for its return on the largest screen possible.
‘Avatar’ Re-Release Secures $6 Million with an Opening Weekend at IMAX Box Office. Avatar, the groundbreaking film directed by James Cameron, has demonstrated that it is still as successful. The film, which was originally released in 2009 and has since been re-released in sensationally restored 4K HDR, was able to take home an astounding 20% of the total earnings for the weekend worldwide.
The sci-fi epic, which made history for its use of striking 3D technology and special effects, tells the story of ex-marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) on his journey to discover the alternate universe Pandora, in which he falls madly in love with their way of life and one particular resident, Neytiri. The film also made history for its use of special effects, which were among the first of their kind (Zoe Saldana).
With $2.9 million acquired from 386 locations around North America, the region’s contribution to the film’s overall success in the United States was noteworthy. The United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea all made important contributions to the overall sum, bringing the film’s total earnings from overseas markets to a modest $3.1 million. Avatar has now earned an astounding $264 million at the IMAX box office over its lifespan, solidifying the film’s position as the highest-grossing IMAX movie of all time thanks to its massive performance over the last weekend.
Given the slew of accolades and positive response to the film in general that it received after its initial run in theatres, it should not come as a surprise that Avatar has been successful in its subsequent run in theatres. This resulted in a total of nine nominations for Academy Awards and three spectacular victories, including Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography. However, the true stamp of approval from moviegoers was shown when it was revealed that the film secured a record-breaking $2.8 billion at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing film in the history of movies.
A huge buzz is being generated in anticipation of the film’s sequel, which is titled Avatar: The Way of Water, thanks to the return of the Avatar franchise to the big screen. The widely anticipated sequel will pick up more than a decade after the events of the first movie, and it will take place on the planet Pandora, where Jake will presumably be settling down with his new family. But the tranquility of his existence is shattered when a “familiar menace” reappears, endangering the peace of the world as well as the family he has just started building for himself.
Jake and Neytiri collaborate on a plan to save the Earth, and they do so by joining forces with the Na’vi army. In addition to Worthington and Saldana, moviegoers may look forward to seeing Worthington, Saldana, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Michelle Yeoh, and Sigourney Weaver in film roles in the near future. The Avatar universe is entering a new age with the release of the sequel, and there are now plans for three additional sequels. There is unquestionably a great deal that people can look forward to.
The remastered version of the film Avatar is currently playing in theatres. On the other hand, Avatar: The Way of Water is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 16. You may watch a preview trailer for the movie at this link:
