Suga Apologizes for Drunk Scooter Incident, Says He’s ‘Tarnished the Name of BTS’

In August, Suga of BTS issued a deeply reflective apology following a recent incident that saw him fined and have his license suspended for riding an electric scooter while intoxicated. This incident has been a significant topic of discussion among fans and media, leading Suga to address the situation openly and take responsibility for his actions.

In a handwritten note shared on WeVerse, Suga expressed his sincere regrets, acknowledging the gravity of his mistake and the impact it has had on his reputation and the BTS brand. “I would like to apologize to you again with an embarrassed heart. I deeply apologize for disappointing and hurting my fans and everyone who loves me with my wrongdoings,” Suga wrote. He recognized that his actions had strayed from the sense of responsibility he believed he owed to his fans and supporters.

The incident occurred on August 6 when Suga, after consuming alcohol, was found riding an electric scooter on a sidewalk in Seoul’s Yongsan district. According to Yonhap news, an officer discovered Suga lying on the ground after a fall. A breathalyzer test revealed that his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit of 0.08 percent. Suga was subsequently booked into Yongsan Police Station on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act, questioned by authorities, and later released.

In his apology, Suga described the incident as entirely his fault, expressing regret for the difficulties his actions have caused those who care about him. “It is all my fault. My carelessness is making it difficult for everyone who cares about me. I will try not to make the wrongdoings again and live my life repenting,” he stated. He further elaborated on how the incident had tarnished his achievements with BTS and affected his relationship with the fans and his fellow members.

Suga’s statement continued with an acknowledgment of the broader impact of his actions, “I am so sorry and in pain that it is difficult to express how I have caused harm to the members and the team. I am sorry that the members who always believed in me have had a hard time because of me.” He committed to accepting any forthcoming punishment and criticism, showing his readiness to face the consequences of his actions.

This apology follows an earlier statement made on August 7, in which Suga had assured his followers that no other parties were involved in the scooter accident. BigHit Entertainment, the record label for BTS, also issued a statement regarding the incident. They apologized for Suga’s inappropriate behavior and assured that they would take greater measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The label emphasized their commitment to supporting Suga through his service as a social service agent during his military enlistment.

Currently, Suga is fulfilling his mandatory military service as a social service agent, an alternative form of service due to his prior commitments. His enlistment is set to conclude in June 2025. Despite the challenges and criticisms, Suga’s recent apology and the response from his management highlight his dedication to addressing his mistakes and continuing his journey with BTS and his fans.
