Lady Gaga Teases New Music: Promises It’s ‘Nothing Like Anything That I’ve Ever Made’

At the Los Angeles premiere of the concert film Gaga Chromatica Ball, Lady Gaga revealed that she has been working in the studio every single day. She also hinted that her new songs represent a significant shift from her earlier music.

“I’ve written and produced so many songs, and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever done before,” she remarked during a Q&A with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans before the film’s debut. “I like breaking down genres and exploring music. There’s something quite wonderful about knowing that you’ll be loved no matter what you do.”

She noted that her current artistic approach began with the Chromatica Ball Tour in 2022. “Something I’m exploring right now is sort of the art of intensity and I think that the art of intensity began during this tour,” she said. “But I’m not done with it yet.”

The video follows Gaga on her Chromatica Ball Tour engagement in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium in 2022. During the Q&A, she reminisced about the 20-date tour, stating that it was “such a special time.”

“This tour went on during a time that people didn’t think that you could tour [amid the pandemic] and stadiums were packed all over the world and they were sold out, all dressed up and dancing and singing,” she said. “I’m just so excited for you all to see what we make up close.”

She also mentioned that throughout the trip, she performed five gigs with Covid. “I shared it with everyone on my team,” she said. “I told them, ‘I don’t want anybody to feel uncomfortable at work, and you don’t have to act or work that day, but I’m going to perform,’ since I didn’t want to disappoint all of the people. And from what I witnessed, it seemed like the fans were putting themselves in danger every day by attending the concert.

She also said that the tour and album were “in many ways the end of a time in my life and the beginning of a completely new one.”

“I feel like that time is maybe a few albums of time that I was sort of saying goodbye to old wounds or scars, or challenges, and with this tour, I felt renewed to do something entirely different,” Gaga said. “I think I felt brave enough to embrace this brutalist aesthetic in a way that I wasn’t brave enough to do when I first put the album out.”

The Chromatica Ball Tour faced various challenges before finally blooming in 2022. The run was postponed twice: first when the globe shut down due to the epidemic in 2020, and again when just a few stops on the worldwide circuit were ready for the resumption of live music in 2021. When the Ball eventually began, Gaga delved into her most extreme and unusual musical styles.

Lady Gaga said on Instagram in March that she had been “writing some of my best music in as long as I can remember.” Gaga has periodically posted images of herself in the studio, and she just announced the return of her Jazz and Piano concert in Las Vegas, where she sings jazz classics and songs from the Great American Songbook.

Gaga Chromatica Ball premieres on HBO and Max on May 25 at 8 p.m. EST.
