Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas play Vic and Melinda Van Allen. They are a wealthy, unhappy married couple who agree that Melinda is permitted to cheat on Vic but not to leave him for the sake of their daughter. Even though Vic has agreed to this arrangement, he enjoys toying with Melinda’s sidekicks. He has a habit of threatening her lovers and claiming that he may have killed the previous guy she slept with her with in the bed.

Vic’s warnings appear hollow and unfounded, but one of Melinda’s lovers dies, and Vic appears to be a plausible candidate. By the way, Vic’s only actual buddies are a few snails he maintains in an aquarium.

Is it true that Deep Water is based on a real story?

Where was Netflix Deep Water filmed? Deep Water is filming in the fictional Louisiana hamlet of Little Wesley, and it was shot on location in and in New Orleans in 2019 and 2020, albeit there were some production delays due to COVID.

Deep Water is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel of the same name, published in 1957. Highsmith has written several works that have been adapted into films, including Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley. But Deep Water is based on Highsmith’s imagination.

Yet, Highsmith did nurture her snails, keeping them as pets and reproducing them, like Vic’s character in the film. Snails appear throughout her work, but most in her short story in The Snail Watcher and Deep Water. Vic’s admiration for these small mollusks may have echoed Highsmith’s, but there was more to it than that.

Is There Any Dissimilarity Between the Book And The Movie?

Yes, the Hulu and Amazon Prime film deviates from the novel, particularly its conclusion.

Vic (Affleck) tries to coerce Don (Tracy Letts) off the road near the creek, which he succeeds in doing, ending in Don’s death as his car plunges into the stream. Despite Vic’s ability to hide his tracks from the cops, Don is the only witness. Melinda (Armas) discovered Tony’s (Finn Wittrock) wallet in Vic’s hands back at the house, revealing that Vic was the one who murdered him.

Melinda resolves to turn a blind eye because of her newfound love for Vic. An associate in Highsmith’s novel discovers Vic’s killer instinct, but he does not inform Melinda about his atrocities. Vic discovers Melinda’s knowledge and strangles her to death before the cops arrive. Vic is arrested at the end of the novel, and he plays out the following activities with a grin:

Vic loathed Wilson’s gloomy, resentful, the-world-owes-me-a-living visage, which reflected the small, dull mind behind it, and he smiled at it and everything it stood for. He condemned it and with a smile, with all that was left of him.” Deep Water’s ending is explained, and book changes clear all doubts.
