The highly anticipated project announcement also includes the cover artwork for her album, which depicts the former adolescent actor’s long blonde hair flowing down her back and a heavy red kiss mark on her left shoulder as she glows in the sunshine. The reverse cover exposes a little Short n’ Sweet tattoo on her right shoulder.

Carpenter announced on social media that her new album would be released on August 23rd, expressing excitement. “This project is quite special to me and I hope it’ll be something special to you too.”

The Disney actress-turned-pop sensation then revealed what more listeners may look forward to this week. “I also have a surprise coming for you on Thursday night,” she said without explaining, “so keep an eye out.”

Carpenter’s album announcement comes only a few days after fans noticed billboards with fan tweets in New York City and Los Angeles, possibly previewing her big surprise. The “On My Way” singer’s next release follows the huge popularity of her most recent hit, “Espresso,” which she played live for the first time at her Coachella 2024 debut.

Carpenter also played the breakthrough hit, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, during her first Saturday Night Live appearance on May 18, along with her songs “Feather” and “Nonsense.” The singer pondered the professional milestone on Instagram the next day, repeating lyrics from her newest song and captioning, “I’m working late because I’m a singer.”

The Singular Act The singer said, “@nbcsnl, thank you for having us. I’m so not chill about it and never will be.”

Carpenter most recently joined Coldplay for a surprise performance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Luton, England, on May 26. The two performers sang the rock band’s 2014 hit “Magic.”

“We’ve been playing this one Big Weekend since we were children,” Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin told the audience before introducing Carpenter, according to a post on X.

He continued: “What we’d like to do, to say thank you to you for being so wonderful for the whole three days, is bring on a singer who’s much younger, more beautiful, more successful, and better in every way, and sing a song of ours that is OK, but make it good.”

The “Vicious” singer then emerged to a shout of applause before harmonizing her vocals with the band.

Carpenter’s next album, her sixth full-length release, will come after 2022’s Emails I Can’t Send, which she improved last year with a deluxe edition called Emails I Can’t Send Fwd.
