Kendrick Lamar Celebrates West Coast with ‘Not Like Us’ Video

The video for Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” the most popular single from his spat with Drake, has finally dropped. The song was filmed in Lamar’s hometown of Compton, and Lamar performed it six times in a row during his “The Pop Out” show last month.

The video, created by Dave Free and Lamar, praises the West Coast while poking fun at Drake and his OVO team. The video opens with Tommy the Clown allowing Lamar inside a metallic chamber before the rapper does push-ups on cinder blocks, a tribute to Drake’s song “Push Ups,” which included a shot of Lamar doing the activity as part of its release.

Lamar hits an owl piñata, referencing Drake’s OVO owl, with a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen stating, “No OVHoes were harmed during the making of this video.” Lamar then takes to the streets, driving a vehicle with the song’s producer Mustard riding shotgun.

Fans have already noticed that Lamar’s fiancée Whitney Alford and their two children are dancing in a living room in the video. Alford was mentioned in one of Drake’s diss tracks, “Family Matters,” in which the Toronto rapper claimed that the video’s co-director and longtime collaborator Dave Free fathered one of Lamar’s children with Alford.

Needless to say, the video for “Not Like Us” is a victory lap for Lamar, who arguably emerged victorious in his spat with Drake earlier this year.

“Not Like Us” became the greatest success of the two’s collaboration, peaking at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming a Song of Summer candidate.

Lamar recently played the song six times at his “The Pop Out” performance in his hometown of Los Angeles on June 19. He represented his city during the event, bringing out a lineup of performers like Dr. Dre, YG, Tyler the Creator, Schoolboy Q, and others.

Who was in the Not Like Us music video?

Tommy the Clown, DeMar DeRozan, and Black Hippy rap group members Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock are among the numerous appearances in the music video. They also performed at Lamar’s Juneteenth performance last month and are well-known in the West Coast hip-hop culture.

When was Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar released?

Kendrick Lamar’s feud with Drake is far from over. In fact, he’s come to claim the Toronto rapper’s Song of the Summer award. On July 4, Lamar released the music video for his Drake diss single “Not Like Us” – a timely release date after labeling his opponent a “colonizer.”
