There is only one gift that could possibly qualify as the “ideal” present for dad over the holiday season, and it’s possible that this year’s winner will be a movie that he hasn’t seen before. The legendary action movie Highlander, which was released in the 1980s, will be released on 4K on December 13, just in time for the holidays this year.
‘Highlander’ Brings a Kind of Magic
The film Highlander narrates the narrative of Connor MacLeod, a Scotsman who is killed in a fight set deep within the highlands of the Scottish Highlands. Christopher Lambert plays the role of Connor MacLeod. However, his relatives do not lament Connor’s passing; rather, they lament the witchcraft that was responsible for resurrecting him after he had been presumed dead. As it turns out, Connor MacLeod can’t die, and joining him in his endless existence is Juan Ramrez, whose role was performed by the legendary Sean Connery. Connor and Juan have an immortal life together.
Soon after, Ramrez becomes MacLeod’s friend and enlightens him on what it truly means to be eternal. However, when millennia pass without consequence, Connor MacLeod and the other immortals find themselves pulled to New York City. There, only one of them will be granted the Prize, and the rest will perish in the process (and heads). Since its initial debut in 1986, the movie has gone on to achieve legendary status, and it has been the inspiration for a film and television franchise that has amassed millions of followers all over the world.
The 4K release of Highlander will include a number of special features, such as a featurette titled “The Immortal Attraction of Highlander,” a featurette titled “Looking back at four decades of Highlander magic,” a featurette titled “There can only be one Kurgan – Clancy Brown remembers Highlander,” a featurette titled “Capturing Immortality: Interview with photographer David James,” and a featurette The film will also be available in multiple audio commentary versions, including versions with commentary from people like Russell Mulcahy, Peter S. Davis, and William N. Panzer, which will be included in the 4K edition.
Audio commentary from filmmaker Mulcahy is going to be included as another one of the additional features on the Blu-ray release. The Blu-ray release will also include a number of other bonus materials, such as an interview with Mulcahy, an interview with Christopher Lambert, a featurette titled “The Making of Highlander,” deleted sequences, an archival interview with Christopher Lambert, and a teaser for the movie.
On December 13, the movie will be available in a version that can be viewed in 4K Ultra HD. This edition comes with some really awesome packaging that features some artwork that looks like it was created in the 1980s, Connor MacLeod in all of his incarnations, and some violent lightning strikes. The 4K and Blu-ray releases will each have a suggested retail price of $22.99 when they are finally made available. In addition to that, there will be a Steelbook release that will be unique to Best Buy and will be available for a suggested retail price of $27.99.
